General teaching guidelines
This course is primarily an opportunity for students to practice these skills in class and to master the language through learning by doing, working with a partner or in small groups.
Moreover, students are made familiar with “pinyin”, the standard Chinese transcription system – which is a prerequisite for using the dictionary independently and accurately. Although, there is an introduction into the transcription system, the active mastery of the characters is not assessed, solely the student’s recognition of a manageable character body.
